Visit of the Berlin Centre of Competence for Water

Amazing work outing to the LakeLab

On the occasion of its annual work outing, the Berlin Centre of Competence for Water was interested to learn more about Lake Stechlin and the LakeLab. By train and bicycle 27 staff members arrived from the capital and combined work and fun during a splendid late summer day.

On Thursday, August 28, Mark Gessner, head of IGB Stechlin, and Stella Berger, LakeLab manager, received Andreas Hartmann, Bodo Weigert and their team from the Berlin Centre of Competence for Water. Within their experts groups, the guests had already heard about the LakeLab and were now curious to have a closer look at the place and to find out more about the ongoing research at the facility. After an introduction by Mark Gessner in the seminar room, Stella Berger guided the group to the LakeLab.

The Berlin Centre of Competence for Water founded in 2002 is an international centre for water research and knowledge transfer. As a non-profit organisation, it links the water expertise of Berlin´s universities and research institutes, the Berlinwasser group of companies, Berlin SMEs, the Berlin administration and Veolia as international provider for environmental services. The centre focuses on cooperation projects in the fields of groundwater management, sewage network, waste water technique and waters protection. In the past, IGB had cooperated with the Berlin Centre of Competence for Water; perhaps there might be new links in the future via the LakeLab research.
